Time for Torrent of Foreign Students?
Singapore GCE A-level (Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education Advanced Level) results are out. Online discussion fora will again be abuzz with talk around the mandatory National Service and admission criteria for local universities.
Parents of those who do not make the local cut will have to dig deep into their pockets to send their children overseas for university education.
While Singaporean male students prepare for NS, local universities will be ready to open their precincts to a flood of foreign students who take seats in most plum courses. NS perhaps makes it easier for Singapore to accommodate the overseas torrent.
Students from India, for instance, have no grade issues to contend with as the education system there is geared to making it easier for them to almost score centum in all subjects. They hardly follow the international system! And acing SAT is a breeze with all the spoon-feeding so easily available.
Also, while students from Singapore will be 19 when they enter the undergraduate courses, many among those from outside will be around two years younger. NS widens the gap to around four years.
Tougher than British GCE A Level: Singapore appears to be doing everything possible to prevent its own students from entering the local universities by making even the GCE A-level exams tougher than the British/International format, as universally acknowledged.
The so-called foreign flood thus comes into Singapore through education and the workforce.
- Hundreds of thousands of unskilled and mid-skilled foreign workers
- Even fresh graduates from overseas by the thousands are allowed in easily, not to speak of some experienced foreign mediocrity and those with fake degrees!!
All this while Singaporean graduates are struggling to find even entry-level jobs!! Are jobs and education only for foreigners? Or is there a subtle racist tinge?
Cannot fathom why the government is so desperate to destroy Singapore that is already bursting at its seams with a deteriorating quality of life because of mindless overpopulation! Just because Singapore loves being dubbed a business-friendly country!! What about people friendliness?
