Talk of spices and what instantly springs to mind is India. The state that goes by the tourism catchline of “God’s Own Country” – Kerala – is known as the spice garden of India. Such spices as pepper, cardamom, cinnamon and ginger are said to have had its origin in Kerala – something that drew explorers to India and Kerala (with Kochi taking centrestage) even more than 3000 years ago.
But a visit to the Singapore Heritage Fest 2013 at the Plaza Singapura mall yesterday brought me fresh insights into the world of spice.
