BJP and Modi Appear Bent on Giving Congress, Opposition A New Lease of Life

When in May 2014 the BJP was voted to power in India with an overwhelming majority, Mr Narendra Modi had a glorious opportunity to transform the country with genuine populism-free development.

Seven months down the road, it has already messed up with that opportunity by hitching on to the populist Hindutva bandwagon and bringing the opposition parties together and giving the Congress hopes of a new lease of life.

Its goal of making India a Hindu Rashtra by 2021, as openly professed by the RSS and the VHP, is alienating even balanced individuals among minorities who can sift reason from fanaticism.
