The World Must Impose Sanctions on Islamabad
When it comes to dealing with Pakistan, the Narendra Modi government in India is no better than its predecessor – full of dithering and empty talk.
I will have to repeat what I had articulated in my post here on December 18 last year. I had then suggested then some measures that could establish if India and the world were serious about fighting terror. These, I had argued then, could include:
- Severing all diplomatic ties with Pakistan
- Getting the West to impose complete sanctions on Pakistan (Uncle Sam and his cronies are quick to impose that on North Korea and Libya to suit their own political ends but pander to Pakistan
- Bringing all pro-Pakistan elements in India to book without delay
- Silencing the Indian media as the pseudo patriots among them talk too much about Defence with gay abandon.
How US Dealt with Osama: Pakistan is always full of lies. They kept saying Osama bin Laden was not in the country. The U.S. did not have to give mountains of evidence to prove Pakistan wrong. They simply raided the country to eliminate the al-Qaeda chief who had masterminded the 9/11 blasts in the U.S.
Congress spokesman Manish Tiwari and former Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah highlighted this at a TV debate yesterday.
Pakistan cooperated with the U.S. in the raid and will not extend the same privilege to India.
A military intervention may not be the way to go, considering that both India and Pakistan are nuclear powers. But without bold initiatives there can be no escape from terrorism.
The West is doing that in tackling ISIS knowing fully well that it is putting its nationals at risk – Americans and Britons are usually the ones who are taken hostage and beheaded. Civilised behaviour is not something you can expect from terrorists.
Content with Dossiers and Calling off Talks: India, on the other hand, is satisfied with providing dossiers and dossiers of evidence regarding the presence of the world’s most-wanted terrorists in Pakistan.
Hafiz Sayeed, founder of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), enjoys the patronage of the Pakistani government and military as he goes about fomenting trouble in India.
Pakistan is also hosting the man behind the 1993 and 2008 Mumbai explosions, Dawood Ibrahim and Tiger Memon, both born in India. Recent evidence clearly shows Dawood’s residence in Karachi being close to that of Bilawal Zardari, son of former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. India has with his full residential address. Islamabad has even given Dawood a Pakistani passport.
Still, Pakistan remains in denial mode, convinced that India does not have the spine to take any drastic action.
Yakub’s Hanging: The only drastic step India took was in hanging Yakub Memon, elder brother of Tiger Memon, 22 years after he returned to India to face the law in his country of birth.
I agree he had sponsored terrorist activities in India but he did cooperate with Indian authorities after his return from Pakistan where he was unhappy.
India hanged him last month in a move that only suggests it was to mask the country’s failure to bring to book bigger criminals Tiger Memon and Dawood.
