Anchor Arnab Goswami tells Congress spokesman in a debate on Times Now a little while ago: “you are weak in the merits of the case.”
By implication, Arnab is the supreme legal power in India. In fact, the Chief Justice has to take orders from him!!
He was talking during a debate on the bail that Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi were able to get today from a Delhi court in a case involving The National Herald, a newspaper founded by India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
The matter is in court, so sub judice!
But in India, journalists are above law and have the right to pass judgment on any issue even before the court does. Particularly so for TV journalists who usurp all power and follow no rules, even as news channels vie with one another for TRP (Television Rating Point) score. Cutthroat competition and the Idiot Box description applies perfectly for them!
Courts do not care about what is emanating from the media.
