I have seldom seen extravagant Christmas decor at the St Andrew’s Cathedral in Singapore during the last several years we have been members there.
It has always stood for simple celebrations without even a Christmas tree – they usually have a small one at the welcome centre, not inside the church.
But when we visited the church this morning for the Sunday service, I found it simpler than ever – just a few non-descript Christmas wreaths on the walls. It did not appear like this was the last Sunday before this year’s Christmas.
I thought perhaps the church was playing it down because this was the year that Singapore lost its founding father, Lee Kuan Yew.
The church bulletin, however, had an insert about a Chinese New Year shopping visit for the congregation set for the third week of January.
Some Christmas celebrations are on – such as a carol service – as you will learn from the church website.
This is the best time of the year to be in Singapore. May Christmas fill you with cheer and joy!
