India’s PV Sindhu has just taken game 1 at the Rio Olympics Badminton semi-final against Nozomi Okuhara of Japan. (she later went on to post a convincing win for a place in the final.)
Two Asians are showcasing their skills in a game that is popular in Singapore. But, on the Okto TV channel in Singapore, what is being telecast is some Kayak event where I found no Asian in the reckoning.
China vs Spain semi-final was live on Okto
But in an earlier semi-final involving a player from China (Li Xuerui) against Spain’s world number 1, Carolina Marin, the match was telecast live without any disruption.
Marin’s win over the Chinese reigning Olympic champion must have left Singapore in utter disappointment!
This, to me, shows how China-obsessed Singapore is while talking eloquently about racial harmony!
Live online on Toggle
But a friend later told me that the Sindhu-Okuhara match was shown live on a Toggle channel online.
I was not aware of that but online viewing is cumbersome. When the other semi-final was telecast on Okto, the same should have been applied for the Sindhu match as well.
Incidentally, Sindhu had beaten world number 2 Wang Yihan of China in the quarterfinals.
