Engrossing Match, with Wozniacki a Deserving Winner

Australian Open Her First Grand Slam Title

It was a scintillating match that could have swung either way, with Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark emerging as the Australian Open champion tonight.

Romania’s Simona Halep gave it her all and was graceful in defeat, acknowledging her best was not enough as “somebody was better than me.”

Not to be left behind in her sportsmanship, Wozniacki drew spontaneous smiles from top-seeded Halep with her apologetic “I am sorry” note in her winning speech.

It is not often we get to see the top two seeds play in a final, so the two played true to their ranking throughout the tournament.

With her first Grand Slam title, Wozniacki also upstaged Halep to become world number 1.

It was a tough, energy-sapping match that kept me focused on the Fox Sports live telecast.

When you just have love for the game, with no favourites and prejudices, tennis becomes the winner.
