Roger Federer weaved magic with his tennis racquet yet again, winning the Australian Open championship tonight for the second consecutive time, taking his Grand Slam career total to 20.
While he started strongly, easily winning the opening set, he began to struggle when Marin Cilic came back into the game with brilliant serves and angled smashes.
Cilic was, however, unlucky as a few strokes that could have been easy winners either went long or hit the net, giving the maestro some respite whenever he was in trouble.
To that extent, I did not think it was a convincing win for Federer, with the 6-1 fifth set score hardly reflecting the pressure he was under.
As a Federer fan, I am glad he won, but Cilic was a worthy finalist, giving the champion a fright. Well done, both!
