A Unique Part of Indian Culture

Acts such as this (Infosys Founder Narayanamurthy touching Feet of Ratan Tata) represent Indian culture at its best. Not religious one-upmanship or a sense of misplaced nationalism!

Paying obeisance to parents, elders and those whose accomplishments inspire awe is unique to the country, though it is on the wane. It is a nice, humble way to show our respect to them and seek their blessings.

I do not recall touching the feet of my parents at any time, but at my wedding my mother made me do so for her elder brother and a few others.

In Tamil Nadu politics, it is an act of blatant sycophancy. Politicians without scruples prostrating before their party leaders, including falling flat at the feet of the likes of patrons of corruption and evil (such as Sasikala Natarajan, now in jail), only serves a selfish purpose and degrades the culture.
