Thank You, PM Lee Hsien Loong!

How I wish he continued as Prime Minister for another decade! He is only 72, making way for a successor 20 years younger!

Though this was expected, with a well laid-out transition plan, clear and transparent, May 15 is coming too soon! Nonetheless, after two decades as PM, he does deserve a well-earned respite!

An outstanding PM, Lee Hsien Loong is a first class Honours graduate in Mathematics from Cambridge, finishing “top of the class by a street”, as his professor once recalled.

A calm and gentle speaker who could take on the toughest of international journalists on live TV, he remained a humble leader, handling the toughest of challenges (COVID, for instance) with stunning efficiency that enabled the well-being of Singaporeans.

I once saw him driving out of a carpark opposite the Parliament building, with no one else in the car. With a warm smile, he waved to a few of us standing at the pedestrian crossing there.

The differences he had with his younger brother and sister that ended up in the court a few years ago was a personal setback for him that he handled with dignity.

He also holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Harvard Kennedy School plus a diploma in computer science from Cambridge.

Thank you, Prime Minister Lee for your rich contributions to the country! I wish you great health and happiness as you move into the next phase of your life!

Perhaps this is time to pick up on your mathematical prowess, get hands on with technology again and write books capturing your experiences for posterity!

Best wishes to the incoming PM, Lawrence Wong, who will take charge on May 15!
